In Star Wars: Galaxies - An Empire Divided, players could create their own characters from a variety of races found in the Star Wars universe. The character customization was extensive, allowing for a wide range of physical and skill-based attributes, which meant players could tailor their characters to their preferred playstyle, whether it be combat, crafting, or exploration.
Set during the time frame of the original Star Wars trilogy, the game allowed players to explore iconic locations across the galaxy, from the desert planet of Tatooine to the Wookiee home world of Kashyyyk. These environments were richly detailed and faithful to the source material, providing an authentic Star Wars experience.
A key feature of the game was the freedom it offered players. Unlike many MMORPGs of the time, Star Wars: Galaxies did not lock players into a specific storyline or path. Instead, they could choose their own journey, whether it involved becoming a bounty hunter, joining the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire, engaging in space battles, or simply exploring the vastness of the Star Wars galaxy.
The game included a player-driven economy, where crafting and trading were significant aspects. Players could become artisans, creating items and structures that other players could purchase and use. This system gave rise to vibrant player communities and intricate economic interactions.
Combat in Star Wars: Galaxies was varied, encompassing both ground-based battles and space combat. Players could engage in lightsaber duels, blaster fights, or pilot starships in battles against other players or AI-controlled enemies. The combat system was regularly updated and refined throughout the game's lifecycle.
The game's community was a crucial part of its experience. Players could join guilds, participate in large-scale player events, and collaborate or compete with others in various in-game activities. This sense of community and shared experience was a major draw for many players.
