The most popular turn-based strategy games are based in the distant future, or in a fantasy sci-fi world. But there are also those strategy games, that are based on real historic events and one of them is Steel Panthers. As the game name suggests, the game is about fighting with a various combat vehicles, especially tanks, armored vehicles, mortars, etc. The game is set in the period of World War II, where you go into various battles with your tanks, infantry and other war machines. You can choose from a variety of real battlefields in Europe (Poland, 1939, France, 1940, Warsaw, 1944, ...) and in the Pacific Ocean. The authors of the game did really good job, game is really realistic, everything was thorough and every detail was taken care of. In addition to thoughtful strategy, game provides a huge amount of choices for real fighting machine and the game has beautiful graphics designed by rewarded war games designer Gary Grigsby. The game includes a map editor where you can create your own maps and missions in addition to the default ones. The game allows you to create a custom missions, combine your own fighting vehicles, adjust the terrain and prepare a mission from the beginning. This is really a great strategy game and I recommend it not only for fans of World War II.
