Do you digging the holes? Maybe you are a mole, or lady-mole. Anyway, if you have any conflicts with your friends, you can solve them by talking, or just try fight each other. Liero ("earthworm" in Finnish) is a platform game similar to Worms, but with the difference that it is played in real-time. The game was created by Finnish programmer Joosa Riekkinen in 1998 for the DOS system.
You control a small earthworm on a fully destructible map (except for rocks) and your task is to kill either a computer controlled opponent or a live player. The biggest attraction of this game is in splitscreen with a friend. At the beginning, you choose 5 weapons from the 40 pieces offered, as well as a game mode - Deathmatch, Game of Tag or Capture the Flag. All weapons have infinite ammo, but each has a different long reload interval. Dozens of firearms are at your disposal, from pistols, shotguns, machine guns, sniper rifles, UZIn, spinners to various explosives, fragmentation grenades, banana bombs, lasers, rocket launchers and mines. The arsenal is very diverse and everyone will find their favorite set of 5 weapons that they will use the most.
The basic building block of this fast action is the correct timing and quick orientation on the map. You can skim or shoot your way through the map. A "shooting hook" is used to quickly move around the map, which can be attached to and pulled anywhere in an instant. At the same time, you can use weapons during your Tarzanian fun. So if you are under heavy fire, the grappling hook is your last resort. You can use the minimap below the main screen to navigate the level. Overall, the game is reminiscent of titles such as Atomic Bomberman, Ignition or Worms with its addictive gameplay, in which it was also primarily a battle of live players.
Graphically, Liero is very pixelated and not very detailed. Still, the graphics have a special charm. The game also uses a similar physics engine, which allows you to destroy the entire environment or throw away the enemy with pressure waves after an explosion. The maps in the game are generated completely randomly and can be modified in the editor.
