Game review

Ecstatica is set in a medieval fantasy world, the game stands out for its unique visual style and engaging gameplay. The game's most striking feature is its use of ellipsoid graphics, a technique that was quite revolutionary at the time. Instead of the traditional polygon-based models or pixel art common in games of that era, Ecstatica used ellipsoids to create its characters and environments. This resulted in a distinctive, almost surreal visual style that set the game apart from its contemporaries.

Players take on the role of an unnamed hero who arrives in a seemingly deserted village, only to discover it's cursed and overrun with demons, werewolves, and other mythical creatures. The game blends elements of horror, fantasy, and humor to create a unique atmosphere that is both eerie and whimsical. Gameplay in Ecstatica is a mix of exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat.

One of the key aspects of Ecstatica is its open-world design. Players have the freedom to explore the game's world in a non-linear fashion, which was relatively uncommon in adventure games at the time. This open-world approach, combined with the game's immersive storytelling and unique visual style, makes for a highly engaging gaming experience.

Ecstatica was somewhat overshadowed by other big titles of its time and remains a hidden gem in the adventure game genre. It is fondly remembered by those who played it for its quirky charm, unique graphics, and the memorable world it presented.
