Dvoj-rozmerné plošinovky a skákačky boli dominantou začiatku 90-tych rokov. Na konci 90-tych rokov už plošinovky prestávali byť zaujímavé a každý nový hit musel byť 3D. Pritom 2D plošinovky sú jedny z najzábavnejších hier, avšak každá doba si žiada svoje a tak sa aj herné spoločnosti pohli iným smerom. Našťastie ostalo pár firiem, ktoré nezabudli ani na tento žáner a v roku 1997 vychádza Claw. Hra rozpráva príbeh piráta kapitána Claw (pazúr), ktoré hľadá snáď celý svet, pretože je na neho vypísaná odmena vo výške milióna zlaťákov. Aj keď je chytený, podarí sa mu z väzenia utiecť. Vy sa vžívate do jeho úlohy a vydávate sa na strastiplnú cestu za tajuplným amuletom, ktorý má magickú moc. Už samotnou postavou piráta v hre je jasné, že príbeh sa odohráva v minulosti a tomu je prispôsobená aj grafika hry - korzári, smrtky, piráti s mečami, dynamitom, či nejaká tá mágia. Hra má celkom 16 úrovní, kde každá sa odohráva v inom prostredí a značne sa tak líšia po grafickej stránke. Zaujímavosťou tejto hry bol prítomný multiplayer a ako jedna z mála hier v tých rokoch mala hra aj vlastnú stránku s aktuálnym rebríčkom najvyššieho skóre. Firma Monolith isto zariskovala, keď vydala túto hru v dobe, keď už leteli 3D akčné strieľačky, avšak urobili myslím veľmi dobre, pretože stále sa našlo dosť hráčov, ktorí vedeli oceniť krásnu plošinovku.
